KOTA BELUD, May 10 ― Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has described the Kota Belud People's Housing Project (PPR) as “forward and progressive”.

He said the RM160-million project to be developed with various other facilities on a 32.2-ha site, created a concept of a complete life.

“I am very interested in the Kota Belud PPR development concept because it uses a concept that brings about better quality of life and well-being that is different from other PPRs.

“It (project) encompasses the construction of, for example, bazaar, bus terminal, recreational facilities, kindergartens, mosques and so forth.

“We do not build houses for the people to own but we also build a new community,” he told reporters after launching the project here today.        

He said up to November last year, 95,000 units of affrodable houses were completed, 42,857 units were under construction and another 200,000 units being planned.

Earlier Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan said his ministry had chosen Kota Belud as the National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS) location, which would subsequently led to the district bazaar to be upgraded as a town via several basic amenities and infrastructure transformation and improvement.

Among others, he said it would encompass several aspects, including the construction of bazaar, public transport terminal, square, park and leisure facilities being named the “Kota Belud Walk”. 

On the Kota Belud PPR, Abdul Rahman said the project involving 900 units of one-storey terrace houses in Kampung Pirasan here was expected to be ready by 2017.

He said another 100 PPR units would be built in Pulau Mantanani and would be equipped with various basis amenities such as kindergartens, mosques, multi-purpose halls and shops. ― Bernama
