KUALA LUMPUR, May 4 —The personal website of Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Ahmad Maslan was defaced today, with the unidentified attackers inserting a page-long exposition complaining of the government’s policies and actions.

On the page titled “Perjalanan Dunia Menuju Abadi (The worldly road to eternity)”, the attacker or attackers lash out at the Goods and Services Tax (GST), 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) and the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) loans.

Although the incomplete message appears on Ahmad’s website, the way it is worded suggests it is addressed to the prime minister, making reference to a “wasteful” and “lavish” wedding of the addressee’s daughter.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s daughter was recently married.

The message goes on to criticise the recent passage of the Prevention of Terrorism Bill (Pota) and amendments to the Sedition Act, saying that the emergence of social media meant Malaysians were now braver in voicing their opinions.

“Your actions will only cause more to rise up and oppose you, The use of cruel Acts shows you no longer have confidence in your own leadership,” the attackers wrote.

The message goes on to tell the addressee not to underestimate the nation’s youth, saying that they are “more capable than you expected”.

At the end, the message is signed using the catchphrase of the international hacker group Anonymous, “We are anonymous / We are legion / We do not forgive / We do not forget / Expect us”.

It is unclear if the attack was in fact perpetrated by Anonymous or its members.
