KUALA LUMPUR, May 3 — A 35-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly driving the Perodua Myvi that killed a family of three after crashing into them at the Duta-Ulu Kelang Expressway (Duke) yesterday.

According to a report by The Sunday Star, the woman was arrested in Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) when she was seeking treatment for her bruised lips.

"She was driving the Myvi which hit the victims' Mitsubishi Pajero,” Kuala Lumpur staff officer for Traffic Investigation and Regulation Deputy Supt Markandan Subramaniam told the newspaper.

“We have also identified the driver of the other Myvi which crashed into the victims' car before it spun around."

Markandan said she was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act, for causing death from reckless and dangerous driving.

According to the Act, she may be jailed between two and 10 years, and be fined between RM5,000 and RM20,000 if found guilty.

In a separate report by Malay daily Mingguan Malaysia, Markandan said the police have taken the statements from the drivers of six Myvi cars who were allegedly involved in the crash.

According to him, two of them were interviewed after being arrested on site, while four others surrendered themselves at the Tun HS Lee traffic police headquarters yesterday evening.

Fairuz Nizam Husain, 35, his wife Nova Safitri Azahari, 25, and their infant daughter Nur Firuza Annissa were driving at 1.05am when a Myvi crashed into their Pajero.

Fairuz reportedly died on the spot, while his wife and child died on the way to the HKL.

They left behind two other daughters Nur Firuza Amira, 7, and Nur Firuza Akila, 3.

Social media posts claimed that the accident was the result of an illegal street race involving six Myvis belonging to a Myvi owners’ club.
