KUALA LUMPUR, May 3 — Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek today hit out at a news portal for allegedly twisting his statement on the Goods and Services Tax (GST).

Ahmad Shabery said he had never stated that the action of a hypermarket chain to absorb the GST as contravening the law.

"Saya xpernah ckp Serap GST melanggar undang2, #TheMalaysianInsiderSpin kenyataan saya, xhabis2 buat fitnah TMI ni, (I have never said that absorbing the GST contravenes the law, #TheMalaysianInsiderSpins my statement, no ending to lying, this TMI)," he said in his latest tweet.

Yesterday, the portal had carried a news report quoting Ahmad Shabery as saying the decision made by hypermarket chain Mydin to absorb the GST for consumers for the first three months could be regarded as violating the law. — Bernama
