KUALA LUMPUR, May 2 ― Perak’s plans to gazette a fatwa against infamous Raja Bomoh Ibrahim Mat Zin’s “deviant” teachings has gained support from religious leaders from other states.

Kelantan Mufti Datuk Mohamad Shukri Mohamad said Perak had decided rightly in blocking the spread of such “confusing” matters, claiming that Ibrahim’s practice was wrong in Islam.

“The invisible creatures only Allah knows. If there are elements that we try to attempt to take over God’s knowledge about invisible things, that is wrong,” he was quoted saying by local daily Sinar Harian, when commenting on the fatwa or religious edict on the local shaman.

Negeri Sembilan deputy mufti Nor Azamir Alias claimed Ibrahim’s practice was against Islam and Islamic laws, adding that Ibrahim’s actions could cause a bad impression on the religion.

“Raja Bomoh’s actions often raise doubts and questions, and are shameful and invite ridicule by the public,” he was quoted saying, aso adding that Muslims should seek for Islamic medical treatment instead of seeking a bomoh’s services.

On April 30, Sinar Harian reported that the Perak Fatwa Council had this week decided that Ibrahim’s teachings are illegal and deviant, with the Perak’s Islamic Religious Department (JAIPK) to take action against him after the fatwa is gazetted.

Ibrahim shot to fame with his antics after Malaysia Airlines MH370 went missing last year, where he was spotted at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport with various tools including coconuts, a walking stick and a carpet.

He was recorded performing supernatural rituals that he claimed will help an international search and rescue operation for the missing jet.
