KUALA LUMPUR, May 1 - A Malaysian Imperial College student was jailed in the UK for five years yesterday for downloading more than 30,000 child pornography images and videos that police say were the “most extreme” material they have ever seen.

British paper London Evening Standard reported today that UK police also found last November a life-size mannequin of a young boy at the London home of Nur Nordin, a 23-year-old maths student from one of the world’s top universities.

“Nordin was involved in the making and sharing of some of the most extreme images that have ever been seen by officers that work in this field,” DC Sara Keane, of the Met’s Serious Crime Unit, was quoted saying.

“The volume of images and the alarming content meant that a custodial sentence for Nordin was inevitable,” she added.

The police reportedly said there was a “significant” number of images belonging to the highest category, Category A, among the thousands of pictures on Nordin’s laptop and electronic devices, meaning they depict the most extreme abuse.

UK paper International Business Times said images under Category A picture abuse involving penetrative sex with children.

British tabloid Daily Mirror reported that when the police raided Nordin’s house, they found the maths scholar in his room with a laptop open, sitting next to a life-size mannequin of a boy.

The suspicions of the police were reportedly aroused after they received an alert about an Internet account that had been downloading thousands of images featuring child sexual abuse.

Daily Mirror reported that Nordin had pleaded guilty at the Southwark Crown Court to one count of possessing indecent videos and images of children and seven counts of creating indecent photographs of a child.

According to the tabloid, the young man also pleaded guilty to four counts of possession with intent to distribute indecent images of children and one count of possessing indecent videos, making it 13 offences in total.

The London Evening Standard reported that Nordin will be considered for automatic deportation back to Malaysia upon his release.

Nordin reportedly moved to London last year after winning a scholarship to study mathematics at Imperial College.
