KUALA LUMPUR, May 1 — Police have summoned Datuk Ambiga Sreenavasan to the Dang Wangi police station tonight where she will be arrested over her participation in the May Day rally against the Goods and Services Tax (GST), the activist confirmed.

The former Bar Council president told Malay Mail Online that she received a call from the police this evening and was informed that she will be arrested and held overnight.

“I received a call telling me they will hold me up for a night, just about an hour ago,” Ambiga said.

“It will be at Dang Wangi. It was about the rally today. I will be going shortly to present myself.”

Police have also summoned DAP’s Anthony Loke for questioning over the rally.

Malay Mail Online understands that the politician is currently on the way back to his Seremban constituency but will abide by the police order to be at the Dang Wangi police station at 11pm.

He said he is not sure if he will be detained for the night.

Earlier this evening, lawyer Michelle Yesudas confirmed that the police have so far arrested 20 rally participants.

Michelle, when contacted, said it was uncertain at this point what offence the 20 are being investigated for.

The rally by civil society movement #KitaLawan kicked off shortly after 2.30pm this afternoon from several meeting points and drew a reported crowd of nearly ten thousand participants to the streets of the capital.

There has been no report of injuries or casualties arising from the rally, which is said to have progressed peacefully in a march by a sea of thousands of Malaysians clothed in red and black.
