PETALING JAYA, April 30 — Prepaid users have grown weary over the back-and-forth decisions on GST and prepaid reloads.
Mohammad Sharizan Ismail, 30, who uses Maxis Hotlink said he saw people posting about both announcements on Facebook and Twitter.
“I will wait for an official confirmation,” he said.
Electronic technician Muhd Afif Azarudin, 21, a Digi prepaid user, agreed with Sharizan, saying there were many conflicting statements.
“It is confusing. I don’t know which one to believe anymore,” he said.
Muhd Afif said the confusion was not just among buyers but also sellers.
“Even 24-hour shops stopped selling the coupons some time ago as they were not sure of the government’s instructions,” he said.
“Why would they impose GST on prepaid reloads? Most people use prepaid because they cannot afford a postpaid plan.”
Lecturer Mukram Idris, 40, who is an XOX prepaid user, said he would wait until tomorrow to see whether reload coupons would have GST added on.
He said as the sellers were baffled too, it had inconvenienced the users.
“Some shops do not want to sell the coupons and they are even harder to find in rural areas,” he said.
“Last week, I had to buy reload online for my mother in Pasir Mas, Kelantan because she couldn’t find any shop selling it.”
He said prepaid reloads should be exempted from GST as it would make mobile phone services accessible to more people.
