ROMPIN, April 22 ― Terengganu Umno will use its experience in helping the Barisan Nasional (BN) to win the Pengkalan Kubor state constituency by-election in Kelantan to raise the vote majority in the Rompin Parliamentary by-election here on May 5.

Terengganu Umno Liaison chairman Datuk Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman said in the by-election for the Pengkalan Kubor state seat on Sept 25 last year, Terengganu Umno was entrusted to look after the Tujoh polling district centre (PDM), and succeeded in raising the vote majority considerably.

Following the success, Terengganu Umno is now given the responsibility to look after seven polling district centres in the Rompin state seat by-election namely Pontian, Kedaik, Kampung Gading, Bandar Baru Rompin, Kuala Rompin, Leban Chondong and Sungai Puteri.

“Four hundred people will be assigned to all the PDM, and the number will be increased from time to time, depending on the needs,” he told reporters after chairing the Terengganu Umno meeting, here last night.

He said Terengganu Umno was optimistic about raising the vote majority in the Rompin by-election because the candidate to be fielded, Rompin Umno division acting head, Datuk Hasan Arifin had wide experience in politics and was close to the constituents in Rompin.

Ahmad Razif said Terengganu Umno would also use its own style in approaching the voters to explain on the current issues to be played up by the opposition in the by-election.

The by-election for the Rompin Parliamentary seat is being held following the death of incumbent Tan Sri Dr Jamaluddin Jarjis who died in a helicopter crash on April 4.

In the 13th general election, Jamaluddin retained the seat that he held for almost six terms after defeating former PAS Wanita head, Nuridah Mohd Salleh, with a majority of 15,114 votes. ― Bernama
