KUALA LUMPUR, April 21 ― The struggle to provide security to three gated communities in Klang involved two gangsters with eight violent criminal records, police revealed.
Selangor Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Mohd Adnan Abdullah said yesterday the killing of security guard Muhammad Ridzhuan Che Bi, 26, who was burnt alive on Saturday, was connected to security services in three areas — 11 Avenue, Awani and Fuego — in Bandar Bukit Raja.
The move to seize control of security services by gangs in neighbourhoods follows the murder of Gang 24 leader Asli Guna, who was executed on February 11 over territorial control of drugs.
Mohd Adnan said police picked up four men aged between 23 and 37 yesterday from a number of locations in Klang and Bandar Baru Kampar, Perak, in operations from midnight to 4am.
To date, 12 suspects have been arrested in connection with the case and police are working to identify the mastermind behind the attack.
“Right now, we believe the attack was in relation to security services and we have not ruled out that gangsters were involved,” he said.
The four men arrested yesterday have been remanded until Sunday.
Mohd Adnan said the police were looking to narrow the scope of the investigation — to solve the murder first, before looking into other angles.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said federal police would provide assistance to the Selangor police headquarters and Klang district police station.
“We will continue to monitor the situation and we will not compromise,” he said.
Khalid said the Ops Cantas Khas special operations would be strengthened and its focus would be on Selangor, specifically Klang.
On Saturday, five men on motorcycles entered the area at 2am and burnt Muhammad Ridzhuan, who was on duty at 11 Avenue. They also used machetes to slash six other security guards who were on duty at the Awani and Fuego guardhouses, and torched and vandalised the posts.
Police arrested eight men, aged 26 to 59, between 11pm on Saturday and 4am on Sunday in separate raids in Klang.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said police had instructed the Bukit Aman Anti-Vice, Gaming and Secret Society division (D7) and the Special Task Force for Anti-Vice, Gaming and Gangsterism (STAGG) to hunt down the gangsters involved in the attack.
He said the ministry viewed the cases seriously and would summon the guards’ employers for their statements.
“If there is any breach in conditions or regulations, the ministry will not compromise and will take action, including terminating the licence of the companies,” he said.
