PERMATANG PAUH, April 21 ― PAS members in Permatang Pasir are on standby to campaign for PKR in Permatang Pauh after the April 25 nominations, the Islamist party’s state assemblyman Datuk Mohd Salleh Man said today.
He said PAS members in his constituency will be in Permatang Pauh to ensure PKR successfully defends their seat.
“We are ready to fully support PKR in the Permatang Pauh by-election,” he told reporters after attending an event at the Saidina Abu Bakar Mosque in Guar Perahu here.
Similarly, PKR president Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said PKR will offer the same level of support to its ally in the Rompin by-election which is held within the same period.
They both insisted that PKR and PAS are working together to ensure they win in both by-elections - Rompin on May 5 and Permatang Pauh on May 7.
Mohd Salleh also refuted Permatang Pauh PAS commissioner Omar Hassan’s claim that the Islamist party will not support PKR in the by-election.
“The central party leadership has already decided and ordered that all divisions must offer support to PKR and so we must obey the order,” he said.
Permatang Pauh is a PKR stronghold with its three state seats also under Pakatan Rakyat; Seberang Jaya (PKR), Penanti (PKR) and Permatang Pasir (PAS).
Yesterday, PAS secretary-general Datuk Mustafa Ali ordered all party relevant divisions to work with PKR and DAP for both by-election campaigns.
