KUALA LUMPUR, April 16 — Malaysia is among the countries globally that recorded the lowest cases of accidents at the workplace at only 0.3 per cent last year, said Deputy Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Abd Muttalib.
He said the number of cases also had declined from 63,557 cases in 2013 to 63,331 cases in 2014.
“Of the total number recorded in 2014, 933 involved fatal accidents and 62,398 disability cases.
“In 2013, a total of 62,624 disability cases were recorded while fatal cases remained at 933,” he said when replying to a question from Senator ST Chandra Mohan at the Dewan Negara sitting here, today.
To a supplementary question from Senator Jamilah Sulaiman on employees compensation, Ismail said the Social Security Organisation (Socso) paid out RM2.46 billion in compensation to workers who were involved in accidents at the workplace last year.
“A total of RM7.01 million was paid by the Manpower Department to the foreign workers involved in accidents at the workplace in 2014,” he said. — Bernama
