KUALA LUMPUR, April 15 — The next-of-kin of those who were aboard missing Malaysia Airlines (MAS) flight MH370 urged today several countries, global organisations and commercial aviation companies to continue the search for the aircraft that is believed to have crashed in the Indian Ocean.
The Voice370 Malaysian support group pleaded with the United Nations, International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), Australia, China and Malaysia, as well as several aviation regulators and organisations to continuously fund and support the search for the missing plane that disappeared off flight radars on March 8 last year.
In a press statement, the group urged the entities to “support and fund the continued search for the missing flight MH370 to enable the investigation team to determine what happened to this flight.”
Voice370 also appealed to all the parties named, including aircraft manufacturers Boeing and Airbus, to continue lending a hand in the search for MH370 and to ensure similar incidents do not recur in the future.
“And in the interest of aviation safety, to support the development of remedial measures to prevent a recurrence of a similar event and to bring about a closure to the suffering families, relatives and friends,” the statement read.
Voice370 issued the statement today after learning of a recent tripartite meeting between Malaysia and search partners China and Australia to discuss whether to call off the hunt for the aircraft, after more than a year without any leads.
No trace of the plane has been discovered in the year since it disappeared en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing on March 8, 2014 with 239 people on board.
On January 29, the Malaysian government declared the loss of flight MH370 as an accident under international aviation regulations.
There, however, has not been any debris or wreckage from MH370 found to date, as the undersea search and recovery operation nears its May deadline for completion.
No decision has been made on whether to fund a further search if the current one ends unsuccessfully.
