GEORGE TOWN, April 15 — Penang Perkasa today demanded that the Internal Security Act (ISA) be re-enacted after lodging police reports against a Facebook user for allegedly insulting Islam.

About 50 Perkasa members, led by Penang Perkasa Youth chief Mohd Rizuad Mohd Azudin, lodged 10 police reports against the user for allegedly insulting Islam, the royalty and the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak in social media postings in the past week.

“There are now more people like [him] who will think nothing of insulting Islam and the Malay Rulers so we need the ISA to be reinstated to stop these people,” Mohd Rizuad told reporters after lodging the police report at the Northeast district police headquarters here today.

“ISA will be the perfect solution to stop worse religious and racial problems in our country,” he said.

Penang Perkasa members together with some from Wanita Umno protested briefly to demand the person’s arrest prior to lodging the reports.

According to their reports, the person allegedly posted comments on his Facebook account complaining of the loud “Azan”, the Muslim call to prayer, from a mosque near his house in Tanjung Bungah.

They alleged that he had complained to the mosque over the calls and had threatened to file a complaint with the city council to stop them.

They further alleged that the Facebook user had used expletives to insult Islam.

It is learnt that the person accused has since lodged a police report claiming his Facebook account was hacked and that he did not post those comments.

However, Mohd Rizuad alleged that the man was trying to escape action by claiming his account was hacked.

The ISA was repealed in 2012.
