KLANG, April 13 — A construction company was today fined RM10,000 in default one month’s jail for stealing water from Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas), for a badminton court project three years ago.
Syarikat Megah Timur Bina Sdn Bhd represented by its director William Ong Siew Wen, 32, pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Suzana Hussin and paid the fine.
The company was charged with illegally connecting a pipe from Syabas’ main pipe at Lot 580-592, Lot 598-602 till Lot 670 in Jalan Meru, Kapar here on May 9, 2012.
The charge under Section 123(1) of the Water Services Industry Act 2006, carries a maximum fine of RM100,000 or one year’s jail, or both, upon conviction.
According to the facts of the case, an enforcement officer from the National Water Services Commission (SPAN) discovered the illegal connection near a cement mixer during an inspection at the site.
Prosecuting officer V. Kirupakaran represented SPAN while the company did not engage a counsel. — Bernama
