KANGAR, April 11 — As of yesterday, 39 companies nationwide promised to absorb the six per cent Goods and Services Tax (GST) and maintain the price of their products, says Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Hasan Malek.

He said there were some among those companies which also promised to lower the price of their products after absorbing the GST.

“Those promises made are a positive sign of the GST implementation and I am confident that more companies will emulate the 39 companies,” he told reporters after officiating the state-level Companies Commission of Malaysia development programme 2015 here today.

Hasan said complaints on irregularities over GST enforcement were on the decline while knowledge among consumers on their rights had also improved.

“Up till yesterday, a total of 70,265 inspections, coupled with enforcement measures were carried out,” he added.

He said of the total, 481 premises were given notices in accordance with Section 21 of the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act. — Bernama
