ALOR SETAR, April 8 — Clients and employees of a bank in Simpang Kuala were stunned when a motorcyclist hurled a ‘Molotov cocktail’ in its direction, damaging the front portion this afternoon.

The incident occurred about 4pm.

A client, Enson Boon, 30, said when the ‘Molotov cocktail’ was hurled, he was carrying out a financial transaction at one of the bank’s automated teller machines.

“About 4pm, a man pulled up in front of the bank before hurling the petrol bomb at its entrance.

“The man then escaped on his motorcycle. I tried to chase him but could not, so I lodged a police report,” he told reporters here today.

Meanwhile, Kedah CID chief ACP Mohd Nashir Ya said in a statement the suspect, in his 30s, had been identified and was from Kuala Kedah.

He said about 3pm, the suspect had entered the bank to withdraw RM10,000 but became angry when told that his account had been closed.

“He scolded the bank staff and subsequently left the bank. An hour later, he returned and hurled a Molotov cocktail in the direction of the bank.

“His action was recorded by closed-circuit television cameras,” he added. — Bernama
