KUALA LUMPUR, April 7 — The government bears 98 per cent of the medical costs of Malaysians seeking treatment at government hospitals or clinics, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
He also said that the government would continue to ensure that the quality of service at government hospitals and clinics was stepped up from time to time.
“The government is concerned about and most committed to ensuring the health of Malaysians and that the national health service is of high quality and progressive.
“At the same time, the service should not become a burden for the people and must benefit the most number of people,” he said in a post on his blog, NajibRazak.com, in conjunction with World Health Day today.
World Health Day is a campaign organised by the World Health Organisation aimed at raising awareness and understanding in the people on health-related issues.
The prime minister advised the people to nurture a healthy lifestyle, incorporating in their lives exercise, the consumption of nutritious food and healthy activities to keep diseases at bay.
He said the statistics on obesity in the country were worrying, but he felt that if Malaysians adopted a healthy lifestyle, they could curb not only obesity but all kinds of harmful diseases. — Bernama
