KUALA LUMPUR, April 2 — Cartoonist Zulkiflee SM Anwar Ulhaque, better known as Zunar, said today that he will be facing nine sedition charges in court tomorrow.

“My lawyer just informed (me) that the government will charge me with NINE charges under The Sedition Act tomorrow,” he said in a statement.

Zunar said he is expected to face a RM50,000 bail when he is charged with sedition at the High Court here tomorrow.

The cartoonist said yesterday that he believes the sedition charge set for tomorrow is the government’s “vendetta” against his work, particularly the “Pirate of the Carry BN” and “Conspiracy to Imprison Anwar” books.

Zunar was arrested for sedition over his tweet criticising the Federal Court’s February 10 ruling that sentenced Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to five years’ jail for sodomy.

Rights groups and Pakatan Rakyat (PR) leaders have condemned the government for the arrest, calling it an infringement on civil liberties and free expression.
