KUALA LUMPUR, March 31 — Kelantan's hudud plans were not raised in last week's Cabinet meeting, federal minister Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz said today.

"No, hudud was not discussed in Cabinet," he told reporters when asked if Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had raised the matter last week.

"Why don't you ask the prime minister himself?" Nazri said when pressed to comment on Najib's hudud stand.

Najib has yet to issue a statement on the official stand of the 13-party Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition he leads.

His party, Umno, has said it will not make an official stand on the issue but is leaving its members free to decide whether or not they choose to support the controversial Islamic criminal law that some of its BN partners, including MCA, Gerakan and Parti Rakyat Sarawak have panned as being against the Federal Constitution and unsuitable in a plural society.

Earlier this month, the Kelantan state assembly approved the Shariah Criminal Code (II) (1993) 2015 Enactment with 31 votes from PAS lawmakers supported by 12 from Umno.

The DAP’s central executive committee accused PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang of cooperating with Umno on hudud, in violation of the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) federal opposition pact’s common consensus and Common Policy Framework.

The DAP has cut political ties Hadi for his party’s hudud push, saying it will no longer work with him even as it vowed to remain in PR.

Aside from the current hudud controversy, DAP further accused Hadi of betraying PR during last year’s Selangor mentri besar crisis, when the PAS leader unilaterally nominated candidates other than PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

It also accused Hadi of failing to honour his own pledge made in February that PAS’s amendments to Kelantan’s Shariah Criminal Code Enactment II 1993 will be made available for discussions by the PR leadership.
