Masked robbers make off with RM100k of jewellery in Penang smash-and-grab raid

BUKIT MERTAJAM, March 29 — Two robbers hammered their way to grabbing RM100,000 in jewellery from a goldsmith shop in Jalan Pasar here today.

The hold-up lasted less than a minute.

Seberang Perai Tengah police chief, ACP Rusli Mohd Noor said the robbers escaped on a motorcycle bearing a fake registration number in the 12.35pm incident.

He said one of two men wearing white shirts and full-faced helmets went into the shop and smashed a glass cabinet displaying an assortment of jewellery using a hammer.

His accomplice grabbed a tray containing some of the jewellery before both made their escape, he added.

There were four employees and two patrons at the time of the hold-up.

Rusli said the police would examine footage obtained from the closed-circuit television cameras to facilitate investigations. — Bernama
