KUALA LUMPUR, March 26 — The PAS ulama or clergy faction today asked DAP to explain why PKR’s unilateral move to remove Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim as Selangor mentri besar was not considered a betrayal of Pakatan Rakyat’s (PR) consensus.
Pointing out that the Selangor mentri besar crisis was triggered solely by PKR, PAS ulama information chief Datuk Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali at-Takiri contrasted this to DAP’s openly hostile reaction to Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang over the current hudud controversy.
“It is strange that PKR’s unilateral action in the ‘Kajang Move’ was not considered ignoring PR. The sacking of Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim as MB was done without PAS’s agreement was not considered a betrayal.
“Did Lim Kit Siang then suggest a pact with BN (Barisan Nasional) to ‘save Malaysia?’ Is that not a betrayal of the PR Common Policy Framework?” Khairuddin said in a statement today.
He further warned DAP that its “attacks, slander and insults” against Hadi over Kelantan’s push to implement hudud will remove any religious basis for PAS’s members to continue co-operating with the party in elections.
Yesterday, PAS spiritual adviser Datuk Haron Din similarly warned DAP that its decision to cut ties with Hadi was another step towards the disintegration of the tripartite PR pact.
“I advise DAP to be more civil and cease its attacks against Hadi, if it hopes to share a common medium in fighting the abused, corruption, and failures of the Barisan Nasional administration,” Khairuddin concluded today.
On Tuesday, DAP pilloried PAS president Hadi for his party’s hudud push, saying it will no longer work with him even as it vowed to remain in the PR pact.
The DAP’s central executive committee accused Hadi of cooperating with Umno on hudud, in violation of the pact’s common consensus and Common Policy Framework.
Aside from the current hudud controversy, DAP further accused Hadi of betraying PR during last year’s Selangor mentri besar crisis, when the PAS leader unilaterally nominated candidates other than PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
It also accused Hadi of failing to honour his own pledge made in February that PAS’s amendments to Kelantan’s Shariah Criminal Code Enactment II 1993 will be made available for discussions by the PR leadership.
PKR initiated the “Kajang Move” in March last year to have Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim replace Khalid as Selangor MB. It was forced to field party president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail when Anwar was disqualified by his sodomy conviction.
PKR later insisted on only nominating Dr Wan Azizah as the sole candidate for MB despite orders from the Selangor palace, but PAS named three options including Azmin Ali who was later made MB.
