GUA MUSANG, March 26 — Police busted a major drug trafficking syndicate in Kelantan with the arrest of three suspects and seized a pistol along with more than RM200,000 cash after a high speed chase, yesterday.
Kelantan police chief Datuk Mazlan Lazim said during the 4.20pm incident, the suspects aged 30, 44, and 64 were in a taxi while police were manning a roadblock at Kampung Batu Dua on the Gua Musang-Kuala Krai road.
Mazlan said upon reaching the roadblock, the taxi driven by the 64-year-old suspect did not stop, but instead accelerated towards Kuala Krai, forcing police to give chase.
”Two policemen had to chase the taxi for two kilometers before the arrest, and inspections revealed a pistol with RM200,946 in cash inside the taxi. We did not find drugs in the car because we believe the suspects had thrown the drugs when police were in pursuit,” he said at a press conference at the Gua Musang police headquarters, here today.
Mazlan said the suspects who were from the Klang Valley had used Kelantan as their drug distribution base.
He said the suspects who had no previous criminal records used the taxi to fool the authorities.
”The three suspects were taken to the Gua Musang Police Headquarters for a urine test and found positive for methamphetamine,” he said. — Bernama
