KUALA LUMPUR, March 26 — PAS’ Datuk Dr Haron Din has warned that the DAP’s move to sever ties with the Islamist party’s president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang will lead to an imminent split in Pakatan Rakyat (PR).

The newly-appointed PAS spiritual adviser told Umno-owned daily Utusan Malaysia yesterday that the DAP can just exit the federal opposition pact if it no longer finds PR useful without having to criticise hudud.

“If DAP wants to get out, just get out and we will wait for the new political scenario,” Haron was quoted saying.

In comparison, Haron said PAS still feels that PR is useful and the pact can still be retained at this time.

“Why at this moment when all of us wanted to fix the cracks, then suddenly DAP made a statement that just widened the crack. Severing ties with the president is a signal towards Pakatan’s break-up.

“What is obvious is that we didn’t start the fissure…DAP’s move was baffling. We see the signal is towards that direction,” he added, referring to the end of PR.

On Tuesday, DAP pilloried PAS president Hadi for his party’s hudud push, saying it will no longer work with him even as it vowed to remain in the PR pact.

The DAP’s central executive committee accused Hadi of cooperating with Umno on hudud, in violation of the pact’s common consensus and Common Policy Framework.

Aside from the current hudud controversy, DAP further accused Hadi of betraying PR during last year’s Selangor mentri besar crisis, when the PAS leader unilaterally nominated candidates other than PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

It also accused Hadi of failing to honour his own pledge made in February that PAS’s amendments to Kelantan’s Shariah Criminal Code Enactment II 1993 will be made available for discussions by the PR leadership.
