KOTA BHARU, March 25 — A 27-year-old man died after he was struck by a flying fire extinguisher at the Cakerawala Gas Platform about 167km from the coast of the state, yesterday.   

Kelantan police deputy chief Datuk Rosli Abdul Rahman said in the 3pm incident, the victim Mohd Saiful Sufri Ruslan from Ajil, Terengganu was replacing the fire extinguisher.      

“The victim was undergoing replacement work when the cylinder suddenly discharged high-pressured gas and hit the victim,” he told reporters at the 208th Police Day celebration here today.

Rosli said the case was classified as sudden death and the body was sent to Hospital Raja Perempuan Zainab II (HRPZ II).               

In another development, Rosli said youth involvement in crime was taken seriously by the police and various activities were taken to address the problem.

“For the period of January to March this year, a total of 17 arrests were made, a slight decrease compared to last year’s 21 arrests for the same period.      

“This decline is the result of continuous efforts through various activities such as ‘Saya Benci Dadah’ programme and others,” Rosli said. — Bernama
