PUTRAJAYA, March 23 — A lift at the site of a high-rise condominium under construction here crashed today, killing three Indonesian workers and injuring the Bangladeshi lift operator, according to police.
Putrajaya CID chief DSP Zaihairul Idrus said the Indonesians, in their 20s, died on the spot in the accident that occurred at 10.45 am at Precinct 15. The Bangladeshi is in his 40s.
The bodies of the Indonesians were sent to the Putrajaya Hospital and the Bangladeshi was also sent there for treatment, he told reporters at the scene.
Zaihairul said the lift crashed, apparently from the 13th floor under construction, after its braking system reportedly failed.
He said the lift, which had been in operation since December last year, was maintained by an engineer at the site and could carry a weight of up to 2,000 kg.
At the time of the accident, the four men and several bags of cement were in the lift, he said.
Zaihairul said the police had classified the case as sudden death and had conveyed the news to the Indonesian embassy and the Bangladesh high commission.
Work at the site had been stopped pending an investigation into the accident, he said. — Bernama
