PETALING JAYA, March 23 — The Land Public Transport Commission’s (SPAD) complaints hotline has been flooded with calls from unhappy customers  demanding refunds as they think the new fares have been postponed.

A SPAD complaint management division officer, who declined to be named, said they had received an increase of calls from Friday after the announcement of the fare hike on Thursday.

“There have been even more calls since the postponement statement was made,” the officer said.

It is learnt that one of the main arguments between the taxi drivers and customers is that the customers are refusing to pay the new rates and think the drivers are cheating them.

The taxi drivers, on the other hand, are complaining to SPAD that the money they spent on recalibration of their meters should be returned to them.

A SPAD source said the commission was unclear of what the situation was right now.

“There has been no official communication or confirmation from the  Prime Minister’s Office about the postponement,” the source said.

“Until there is an official announcement from SPAD, the new rates remain.”
