MALACCA, March 23 — A maid agency operator claimed trial in the Sessions Court here today to human trafficking involving an Indonesian woman.
Too Siew Hoon, 43, allegedly exploited Selviana Taneo, 32, by forcing her to work as a housemaid without a work permit.
She is accused of committing the offence at house No. 61, Jalan PJ25, Taman Pertam Jaya, Ujong Pasir here, between Jan 20 and July 30 last year, between 7 am and 11 pm.
The charge under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007, carries a jail term of not more than 15 years and a maximum fine of RM500,000 upon conviction.
Judge Ahmad Sazali Omar set bail at RM10,000 with one surety and April 28 for re mention.
Deputy public prosecutor Ifa Sirrhu Samsudin appeared for the prosecution while the accused was represented by counsel Markhan Singh. — Bernama
