KUALA LUMPUR, March 17 — DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang today urged the Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar to cease his apparent “war” on opposition lawmakers and activists that has so far led to multiple arrests.

Lim said that Pakatan Rakyat (PR) leaders and members of NGOs were not putting the country at risk, unlike the growing influence of militant group Islamic State (IS), and did not warrant such “twisted and distorted” enforcement action from the police.

“I will call on the IGP to stop this war against PR, and against activists... We are no threat to the security of the nation, we want what is best for the country.

“The threat comes from Islamic State and others, so focus on it,” he told reporters during a joint press conference with Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar who was released from the Jinjang lockup this morning after she was detained overnight.

Deriding the IGP’s vigilant monitoring of politicians’ Twitter posts as “immature”, “infantile” and “irresponsible”, PAS’ Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad said the police are giving the impression that one wrong tweet by an individual would invite immediate police action.

“This is worse than, or almost like a communist state, that you are under constant watch and surveillance,” he said during the same press conference.
