KUALA LUMPUR, MARCH 16 — PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar has been arrested by the police and detained for a speech she made in Parliament last week.

Nurul Izzah reported to the Dang Wangi police station at 2.30pm today to answer for allegedly seditious remarks she made in questioning the Federal Court’s decision to jail her father, opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Nurul arrived with a crowd of supporters who cheered and shouted “Reformasi!” (Reform!) as she entered Dang Wangi.

The Lembah Pantai MP was arrested shortly after giving her statement on her speech in Parliament, according to her lawyer, Sivarasa Rasiah.

“She is being investigated by the Bukit Aman (police) team, not the Dang Wangi team,” Sivarasa told reporters outside the police station.

Sivarasa said she will be held at Dang Wangi police station, but did not know for how long because the police refused to say whether she would be remanded.

“But if they remand her, they’re asking for trouble,” he said to cheers from Nurul Izzah’s 40 or so supporters outside the police station.

Nurul was also summoned by the police today to assist in investigations over the #KitaLawan rally on March 7, but was not detained for any related offence.
