KUALA LUMPUR, March 13 — The personal blog of former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has been suspended just hours after a controversial article linked to the debt-laden 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) was posted today.
It is not known who took down the website, or for what reason.
Dr Mahathir’s representative has yet to respond to Malay Mail Online’s queries.
When contacted, Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) corporate communications chief Sheikh Raffie Abdul Rahman said that the Internet regulator was not behind the suspension.
He suggested that it could be the work of the the former prime minister himself or the hosting site.
“To my knowledge, it has nothing to do with us. Why would we suspend it? How would we suspend it? The servers are not with us,” he said in a phone interview with Malay Mail Online.
“You’ve got either the blog owner and the hosting site,” he said, referring to those who might have suspended the site.
In his most recent blogpost, Dr Mahathir warned the ruling Barisan Nasional coalition that they risked losing the next general election if Putrajaya fails to clear the air over the numerous allegations levelled against 1MDB.
He also said that he does not expect the ongoing audit by the Auditor-General to yield much in terms of answers to the public’s many questions on the state-owned investment firm’s dealings.
Dr Mahathir’s last blog post on 1MDB before the suspension is now being shared on a Facebook page called ‘Saya Sayang Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad’.
