KUALA LUMPUR, March 10 — PKR MP Rafizi Ramli revealed today a net worth totaling about RM1.6 million, after accepting an Umno division chief’s challenge to opposition lawmakers to declare their assets.

The Pandan MP said in a statutory declaration that his assets amount to RM1,960,344 while his debt totals RM395,937, resulting in a net worth of RM1,564,407, as of December 31 last year.

“Almost all of my salary and allowances as MP is spent every month on the salaries of my service centre employees and on contributions to my party (in the form of fixed monthly cuts and rental for the Keadilan offices,” said Rafizi in the statutory declaration attached with supporting documents that was sent to the press.

He said he receives a nett monthly income of RM11,710 as MP, out of which RM10,100 goes to PKR and his service centre. 

The opposition lawmaker also said he uses the savings profit from his Amanah Saham Bumiputra and Tabung Haji accounts of about RM4,000 monthly, his savings, as well as his “irregular” consultancy work with international corporations in business and finance, to support his monthly expenditure.

“Generally, I get about US$1,500 (RM5,500) from international companies for each report as a consultant,” said Rafizi.

Rafizi, a PKR vice-president who formerly used to work in management in state oil giant Petronas and pharmaceutical company Pharmaniaga, said he has cash savings totaling RM1,336,908, while his life and health insurance policy and share in Boustead Holdings amount to RM30,436.

He said he has a 1,400 square foot condominium in Bukit Antarabangsa worth RM322,000, as well as three Honda cars, resulting in a total worth of RM593,000 for his property and vehicles.

His debt of RM395,937 is from the remainder of his housing loan, personal loan, car loans for the Honda Accord car loan and Honda CRV, and credit card debt.

Rafizi revealed that the servicing of his various loans, vehicles, and contributions to his parents and wife amount to RM11,900 monthly, while his utility bills and other expenses total RM2,260 a month.

News portal Malaysiakini reported Cheras Umno division chief Datuk Seri Syed Ali Alhabshee as saying recently that Pakatan Rakyat lawmakers should declare their assets before questioning Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s wealth. 

“I advise Datuk Seri Najib Razak to use this method to clear his name for allegedly having wealth that exceeds his salary,” said Rafizi today.

“If it’s true that he inherited plenty of assets from the late Tun Abdul Razak Hussein, as per the Prime Minister’s Office’s statement, then he must detail each of those inherited assets as how I detailed my assets,” he added.
