KUALA LUMPUR, Mar 5 — Families of the passengers and crew aboard Flight MH370 today urged the Malaysian government to pledge to continue looking for the plane, ahead of the first anniversary of the jetliner’s mysterious disappearance.

Voice370, a group that was formed to represent the next of kin of all aboard the Malaysia Airlines plane that went missing in the pre-dawn hours of March 8 last year, said there will be no closure for them until the aircraft is found.

“We call on the Malaysian government to unequivocally commit that the search effort will continue until the airplane and our family members are found,” the group said in a statement.

“Finding MH370 is important not only for humanitarian reasons, but also to discover out what caused the airplane to disappear.

“We will not be able to move forward with our lives until we find them or, at the very least, discover what happened to them on that fateful March day,” the statement added.

Voice370 also repeated that the next of kin will not accept the Malaysian government’s declaration of loss of the plane on January 29, stressing that it was not substantiated by definite proof of a crash and a determination of flight MH370’s final location.

The group also asked that Malaysia Airlines and its insurer refrain from pushing the families to obtain death certificates of their family members in order to initiate compensation discussions, suggesting that a more compassionate approach would benefit not only the families but also the airline’s future.

Meanwhile, Voice370 will organise an afternoon event on March 8 to mark the one year anniversary of the plane’s disappearance.

Called “A Day of Remembrance”, the event will be held at The Square @ Publika in Hartamas Heights from 3pm to 6.30pm, and will include video tributes by and live video conferences with next of kin from around the world.
