KUALA LUMPUR, March 2 — Seven non-governmental organisations (NGOs) have urged the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to investigate and find the mastermind behind the actions of certain individuals who insulted the prime minister, his wife, and the police on Facebook and Youtube recently.

The NGOs are the Pertubuhan Martabat Jalinan Muhibbah (MJMM), Gerak Kerja Gabungan Ayahanda Selangor (GEGAS), Pertubuhan Permuafakatan Majlis Ayahanda Malaysia (Permas), Ikatan Usahawan Kecil dan Sederhana Malaysia (Ikhlas), Ikatan Rakyat Insan Muslim Malaysia (IRIMM), Majlis Bendahara and Akhlak Rahsia Cekal (ARC), which lodged police reports at the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters, here today.

MJMM president, Datuk Abdul Rani Kulup Abdullah said he had lodged three police reports against the individuals and parties involved for tarnishing the good name, image and honour of the prime minister and the enforcement body.

"The first report was made against the individual whose Facebook account name is Chee Kong Lee, for uploading a photo which insulted Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

"The second report was against an individual from the Facebook account of Peter Lee who uploaded an edited photo of the Prime Minister's wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor," he told reporters after lodging the report.

Abdul Rani also lodged a police report about a video clip which showed three masked men calling themselves Anak Malaysia Anti Demokrasi (AMAD) who threatened to kill the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.

Recently, a one minute-27 second video containing a threat to kill the IGP by blowing up his car, went viral on Youtube.

In a statement issued last Wednesday, Khalid said he was not frightened by the death threat and was not worried because as IGP, getting death threats was part and parcel of the job.

Two days ago, the police announced they had set up a special team to investigate the death threats made by AMAD towards the IGP, and would be working with the MCMC to identify the parties responsible for the threat.

"We urge the police and the MCMC to investigate and arrest the individuals and groups concerned for trying to create a controversy, and take them to court, giving a heavy penalty to the guilty parties so that it will be a lesson to other criminals.

"Why should they hold the police and government guilty for carrying out their responsibilities of enforcing the law of the country...if they are not satisfied, then wait until the next general elections," Abdul Rani said.  — Bernama
