MRT Corp awaits full post mortem report over Semantan incident

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 28 — Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) is waiting for a post-mortem report on the cause of death of its Bangladeshi worker during an incident at the Semantan Portal construction site along Jalan Duta yesterday.

Its director of Strategic Communications and Public Relations, Amir Mahmood Razak said the post mortem on Rijaul Abdul Goni, 40, who died on the spot, was carried out at Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL), and completed late yesterday evening.

“The report on the post mortem has yet to be released by the authorities,” he said in a statement here today.

Amir denied media reports that Rijauli’s body was crushed in the accident, and added that preliminary report stated that the body was intact.

“We are arranging for the repatriation of Rijaul’s body on Monday,” and the company has been in touch with the Bangladesh High Commission on the matter, he said.

During the incident, three workers were assembling a rebar cage at the Semantan Portal V4 Site at 1.20pm yesterday when the ties that held the rebars gave away and fell on the workers, he said in a statement here today.

Meanwhile, another worker, Shanaullah who was taken to HKL with facial injuries was reported to be in stable condition after a surgery was conducted on his nose, and the third worker Rozlu Karim escaped injury, he said and extended the company’s deepest condolences and regret to the families over this unfortunate incident.

He said MRT Corp with the authorities were carrying on investigation to determine the cause of the incident. — Bernama
