Missing worker found drowned in Kuala Semarak lagoon

PASIR PUTEH, Feb 24 — A furniture factory worker Mohd Suhaimi Abdul Hadi, 47, who was reported missing while searching for prawns in Kuala Semerak lagoon was found drowned yesterday.

Pasir Puteh district police chief DSP Abdul Rozak Muhammad said the body of Mohd Suhaimi was found by a search and rescue team at 6.45 pm.

“Forty-eight personnel from the Fire and Rescue Department, police, Civil Defence Department and Pasir Puteh District Council joined the search operation after receiving a report that the victim was missing at 4 pm yesterday,” he said when contacted here today.

Abdul Rozak said the victim had not returned to his house in Kampung Jelor here after searching for prawns at the lagoon at 10 pm last Sunday.

Meanwhile Pasir Puteh Fire and Rescue officer-in-charge Wan Baijuri Wan Hassan said the authorities had set up public warning signs on the dangers of going to the lagoon. — Bernama
