KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 16 — Four masked men claiming to be from the Islamic State (IS) have threatened to attack courts throughout Malaysia with explosives this Wednesday, just a week after Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was sentenced to five years’ jail for sodomy.

The video (see below) uploaded on YouTube yesterday by “isis malaysia 69” shows the four men in black standing before a Malaysian flag. Three are standing, with one holding up what appears to be a Molotov cocktail, while the fourth man is seated at a table with three more Molotov cocktails and appears to be reading from a script.

The man reading from the script claimed that the explosives will be set off at courthouses at 11.30pm on Wednesday to symbolise their loss of faith in democracy.

“To whichever party that has been in power for too long, we Malaysian youth, in 2015, announce the outcome of trickery and manipulation in democracy,” said the man, who spoke in Malay.

“We will set of ‘mercun’ in courts as a symbol of the destruction of one of the tools used in the democratic system. We have just started and we will go even further. The more damaged the democracy that you destroy, the more we will fight,” he added.

The man, however, did not specify what had triggered their plan to bomb Malaysian courts.

It is also unclear who is the woman featured on a piece of paper that the man was reading from as he made no references to her.

The Royal Dutch Airlines (KLM) issued an advisory last month to its crew and staff on possible attacks by IS militants in Malaysia.

As many as 50 Malaysians are currently fighting for the terror group in Syria, with some saying that the conflict was mandated by the Prophet Muhammad.

The Federal Court upheld last Tuesday the Court of Appeal’s sodomy conviction and five-year imprisonment sentence against Pakatan Rakyat (PR) de facto leader Anwar.

Last year, the appellate court had reversed Anwar’s acquittal of sodomising former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan.

The conviction of the 67-year-old opposition leader, who has maintained that the charges against him were politically motivated, has drawn brickbats from the international community like Australia, the UK, the US, Canada and the European Union.

Prominent US daily The Washington Post said the verdict showed that Malaysia lacked an independent judiciary.
