100 illegal immigrants detained at Melaka bus terminal

MELAKA, Feb 15 — One hundred foreigners including six women were detained in Ops Kutip over the weekend at the Melaka Sentral bus terminal in Peringgit, here, today.

Melaka Immigration director Mahpof Mahmood said they comprised 32 Indonesian men and six women, 17 Bangladeshi men, 16 Nepalese men, 11 Myanmar men, eight Pakistani men, four Indian national and two men each from Sri Lanka, Vietnam and the Philippines.

He said they were among 550 foreigners aged between 20 and 55, screened at the terminal.

Mahpof said in the five-hour operation that started at 10am, all of them were inspected while coming out of the domestic bus centre.

“They came from all parts of Melaka for leisure and to catch up with friends on weekends,” he told reporters here today.

He said they had committed various offences including entering and residing in the country without valid passes or permits or possessing fake documents. — Bernama
