BANTING, Feb 7 — Consumers are advised to use their 3M power, which is to ‘memilih’, ‘memboikot’, and ‘melapor’ (choose, boycott, and report)  against greedy traders who are reluctant to reduce prices of their goods or services despite drop in oil price.

Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Ahmad Maslan said consumers must not hesitate to use that power against traders who were still selling goods at unreasonable prices to make hefty profit.

“So, it is better for us to adopt the principle of win-win situation, the consumers get quality goods at reasonable prices, while the traders can enjoy a little profit.”

He said this after launching the briefing session on Goods and Services Tax (GST) for Sepang parliamentary constituency here today.

Ahmad said 311,000 businesses had registered for the GST so far, indicating that more and more traders are able to understand the concept of the new tax system.

The GST of six per cent will be implemented from April 1 this year to replace the current Sales Tax and Service Tax (SST) of 16 per cent. — Bernama
