KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 4 — The movie adaption of erotica romance series “Fifty Shades of Grey” has failed to make it past local censors.

According to The Star on its website today, the movie’s scenes of unconventional sexual acts including bondage and sadomasochism did not go down well with the Film Censorship Board (LPF).

“The board made a decision in view of the film containing scenes that are not of natural sexual content.

“The content is more sadistic, featuring scenes of a woman being tied to a bed and whipped,” Datuk Abdul Halim Abdul Hamid, the chairman of the board, was quoted as saying in the report.

Abdul Halim reportedly described the movie as more pornography than an actual drama.

The movie stars Dakota Johnson as protagonist Anastasia 'Ana' Steele from the series by author EL James, and is rated 'R' in the US, which restricts it to viewers aged 16 and above. – AFP pic

The movie’s distributor here, United International Pictures, confirmed that it will not be screened locally.

“Fifty Shades of Grey” was originally scheduled to open in local theatres on February 12.
