Islamic preacher denounces Chinese, Indians for partying as Malays stand guard

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 3 — A six-year-old clip in which a popular Islamic preacher asks “who’s the master, who’s the slave” has resurfaced on Youtube recently, putting the spotlight on Datuk Mohammad Kazim Elias once more.

In the video just over an hour-long, Kazim berated Malaysia’s ethnic Chinese and Indians for having fun drinking and dancing in clubs while the Malays worked hard for the country as soldiers, police officers, firefighters, and cleaners.

“Gentlemen, try looking at Chinese homes, or what are they doing hanging out in their shops. They are freely drinking, going to discos. Malay soldiers are busy in the jungle, in the middle of the sea,” Kazim said in a recorded lecture dating to 2009, which was uploaded to Youtube two years later.

“Now who is the master, who is the slave? … Our race is guarding the jungles. Where are the Chinese? Are there Hindus? How many Hindus are soldiers? Many are robbers. Freely going to Giant, nightclubs, wearing sexy clothes, hanging out in Tesco,” he added, naming two hypermarkets.

In comparison, Kazim suggested that the Malays might be the ones who are “slaves” now as they have to work hard serving non-Malays who are living carefreely.

“Today, their races are disputing the Malay supremacy, kepala hotak depa. We gave them space to express themselves, Malays are big-hearted to them. We share land with them, give them awards, power, are they not satisfied? “Why did this happen? The answer is easy. Because there are Malays who support them,” he claimed.

According to information provided on YouTube, the lecture was made in a mosque in Kemensah Heights, Selangor on December 2009.

The remark made was part of an over hour-long lecture on the topic of the Malay rulers, which is also available in his collection of lectures sold nationwide.

The video has since earned the ire of at least one ethnic Chinese group in Tumpat, Kelantan which lodged a police report against the video yesterday after receiving snippets of it through text messaging app WhatsApp.

In a copy of the report sighted by Malay Mail Online, the president of the Kg Jambu, Tumpat residents’ association lodged a report against Kazim’s remarks yesterday for humiliating the Chinese community and stoking racial unrest.

Kazim is an independent preacher who has appeared in many shows in TV3, TV9 and Astro Oasis channels, and was awarded datukship over the weekend by the Federal Territories.
