SHAH ALAM, Jan 24 — Four Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department personnel associated with the recording and dissemination of a video clip of a 1990s male singer arrested a few days ago, in a drug-related case, have been transferred to the office operations section.

Selangor police chief, Datuk Abdul Samah Mat said the four were still working in the same department but were no longer involved with investigations and operations.

“They have been assigned to office duties or non-active tasks. The final decision on their positions will only be made when we have completed the investigation,” he told reporters at an event held at the Selangor contingent police headquarters, here, today.

Abdul Samah said police were still investigating if more personnel were involved in the incident which caught public attention as the video clip went viral on social networking sites.

The video showed the singer asked to sing while handcuffed during detention.

The policemen’s action was widely criticised as an act of bullying and degrading of the singer. Abdul Samah said the investigation into the incident would go on although the singer had reportedly issued a statement forgiving those who had committed the offence.

“We will not protect any member of the police force as this is a serious offence which not only embarrassed the individual but has also undermined the credibility of the police force,” he said.

The 43-year-old singer and a woman, 32, who were arrested when drugs were found during a police raid on a house in Taman Keramat on Wednesday, were released on police bail today after their four-day remand order was not extended.

Ampang Jaya police chief, ACP Khairuldin Saad confirmed this, saying the man was released around 10am from the Hulu Klang police station and the woman, from the Pandan Indah police station. — Bernama
