Najib wants immediate aid for flood victims in Sarawak

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 19 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said today he had instructed all the relevant agencies to channel aid immediately to the people affected by floods in Sarawak.

In his latest post on his Facebook and Twitter accounts, Najib said he had been monitoring the situation in the areas hit by the floods three days ago.

“I am aware of the floods in Sarawak and have deployed the channelling of aid immediately to the needy. I will continue to monitor the situation,” he said in the post.

The floods in Sarawak, particularly in the Kuching, Samarahan, Mukah and Limbang divisions, have reportedly worsened, with the number of evacuees rising to 3,458 this afternoon from 3,201 in the morning.

Incessant rain over the past few days was a major contributing factor. — Bernama
