Over half of flood victims in Perak return home

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 18 — More than half of the flood victims at the relief centres in Perak have returned home as at 2pm today, while the number in Kelantan recorded a slight drop.

This brought the total number of flood evacuees in the two states to 769 from 1,099 this morning.

In PERAK, the number of evacuees dropped to 267 by 2pm from 579 in the morning.

A Perak National Security Council (MKN) spokesman said there were still 134 evacuees in Perak Tengah, 99 in Hilir Perak and 34 in Hulu Perak.

In KELANTAN, the number decreased slightly to 502 from from 520 this morning.

A Kelantan MKN spokesman said as at 2pm, there were 472 evacuees in Kuala Krai and 30 in Machang.

Although the flood is over, they are still housed at the relief centres as their houses were destroyed by the floods last month.

The government is working at providing them with temporary housing soon. — Bernama
