KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 15 — Lembah Pantai Member of Parliament Nurul Izzah Anwar is officially divorced with “talak satu” from husband Raja Ahmad Shahrir Iskandar Raja Ismail after the latter uttered the pronouncement of divorce at the Syariah High Court here today.
Nurul Izzah, 35, appeared calm beside her lawyer Nor Mawaddah Ramli when Raja Ahmad Shahrir pronounced the divorce at 4.17pm before Syarie Judge Mohd Amran Mat Zain.
Raja Ahmad Shahrir’s lawyer, Azmi Mohd Rais said both his client and Nurul Izzah had agreed to joint custody of their two children.
“It was agreed that the children will stay and spend the night with the plaintiff from 8pm on Monday to 6pm on Friday, and to be with the defendant from 6pm on Friday to 8pm on Monday,” he said.
Besides, he said both the plaintiff and defendant had also agreed that the children would spend the Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Hari Raya Aidiladha holidays with them on annual rotating plan.
Azmi said Raja Ahmad Shahrir also agreed to pay child support of RM1,500 per month.
Nurul Izzah, the eldest child of opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, filed for divorce in December 2013 under Section 47 of the Federal Territories Islamic family Law Act 1984.
The couple were married on May 9, 2003 and have an eight-year-old daughter and five-year-old son. — Bernama
