KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 14 — A mentally unstable man allegedly bludgeoned his 75-year-old mother with a hammer when he was forced to take his medication in Cheras yesterday.

The man, aged 37, has been suffering from mental illness since a road accident 10 years ago. He has been under his mother’s care at their home in Taman Cheras Awana.

A police source said the incident took place at 10.30am when the mother forced the suspect to take his psychotropic pills.

“The man became angry and started shouting at his mother who was attempting to calm him down,” the source said.

The suspect is believed to have used a hammer to attack his mother.

Police found the mother, identified as Koh Poh Yong, sprawled underneath an arch separating the kitchen and living room.

A hammer was found nearby and the suspect was taken into custody.
