Met Dept: Strong winds, rough seas expected till Saturday

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 13 ― Strong north-easterly winds and category two rough seas in waters of Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, East Johor, Tioman, Bunguran, Kuching, Sabah, Sarawak, Labuan, Sulu, Samui and Reef South are expected to continue until this Saturday (January 17).

The Meteorological Department, in a statement issued here today, stated that the north-easterly winds of 50 to 60 kilometre per hour (kmph) and waves as high as 4.5 metres are expected during the period.

It also stated that strong winds and category three tough seas are also expected to persist until this Saturday in waters off Condore, Reef North, Layang-layang and Palawan.

The strong north-easterly winds of 60kmph and waves of 4.5 metres high are dangerous to all shipping and beach activities, including workers at oil platforms, fishing and ferry service.

Meanwhile, the coastal areas in Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang and East Johor are expected to be exposed to high tide until this Saturday. ― Bernama
