False WhatsApp message on floods lands couple in trouble

KOTA BAHARU, Jan 11 — The police have detained a teacher couple for disseminating false information on floods via WhatsApp.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Mazlan Lazim said the couple, aged 45 and 43, were picked up about noon yesterday.

He said the couple was suspected of spreading false information via WhatsApp that there were bodies in Guchil, Kuala Krai, which were untrue, he told a press conference on the arrest at the Kelantan police contingent headquarters here today.

Also present was Kelantan police deputy chief, Datuk Rosli Abdul Rahman. Mazlan said the couple was remanded under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

In another development, he said 11 deaths were recorded and two victims were missing during the major flood in Kelantan. — Bernama
