‘Ops Cuci’ to begin once flood waters recede

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 9 — The Post-Flood Operation mission or ‘Ops Cuci’ carried out by the Civil Defence Department will be carried out on an ongoing basis once the water has receded from flood-affected areas.

Civil Defence Department director-general, Datuk Zaitun Ab Samad, said that so far more than 1,000 personnel, including Civil Defence undergraduate volunteers (SISPA) and students from local universities had been sent to the flood zones for implementing the aid mission.

“As of yesterday, a total of 1,738 personnel including volunteers are involved with the aid mission in 27 districts affected by the floods.

“We will not stop sending aid, including officials, to help in locations affected by the floods,” she said at a press conference after the presentation of post-flood contributions by Percetakan Nasional Malaysia Berhad (PNMB) at the civil defence headquarters, here, today.

At the event PNMB donated food and other necessities to flood victims.

In an effort to help employees who were victims of the disaster, Zaitun said the department would hold discussions and identify appropriate assistance to be given to them.

PNMB managing director, Maamor Che Alias, said that this was the first time they were working in collaboration with the Civil Defence Department and before this they only carried out the ‘PNMB Prihatin’ (Caring PNMB) programme as one of the company’s corporate social responsibility. — Bernama
