Number of flood victims drop in Pahang and Perak

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 8 — The number of flood victims in Pahang and Perak dropped slightly while the number in Kelantan was unchanged at 12.30pm today, with the total number of victims at 22,138 compared with 22,219 this morning.

In Pahang, the number of flood victims dropped to 14,682 compared with 14,719 people after the last two evacuation centres in Jerantut were closed down.

A spokesman of the Pahang Contingent Police Headquarters Flood Operations Room said the evacuation centres at the Tebing Tinggi Community Hall and the Dewan Paya Garop in Jerantut which sheltered 37 victims were closed down at 10.30am.

Five other districts that were still affected did not show any change with Pekan reporting the most number of victims at 9,783 followed by Maran (2,618 people), Kuantan (1,012), Temerloh (985) and Bera (284).

In Perak, the number of victims dropped to 4,253 people from 1,148 families compared with 4,297 victims from 1,162 families this morning.

A spokesman of the National Security Council (MKN) Perak said the number of victims sheltered at the 22 evacuation centres were 3,268 people with 473 victims in Hulu Perak, Hilir Perak (297), Manjung (160) and Kuala Kangsar (55).

The weather in all the areas concerned was also reported to be fine.

However in Kelantan, the National Security Council (MKN) for the state said the number of flood victims in four districts namely Kuala Krai (1,747), Gua Musang (1,157), Tanah Merah (199) and Machang (100) remained unchanged from this morning.  — Bernama
